Reading Challenge for 2026

I used to run screaming from reading challenges.

Don't get me wrong.

I love reading and always had.  Reading unlocked my mind, imagination, and soul.  This started early on in life, and included reading The Lord of the Rings trilogy.

I just don't like my reading to be dictated by someone else.

The only exception was formal education, where I read not just for the subject of the class, but also the reward of a grade.

This started to change in 2013, when I became part of a book club for the first time.  It was a peer-to-peer mutual challenge and support.  I found this thrilling.

Now, I don't mind reading challenges.

I have signed up for an international 500-billion-page reading challenge, run by a corporate entity.  You can find the challenge here.

You don't need a corporation to push you to read.  You only need focus and dedication.

I pledged to read 12 books in 2026, a modest goal.

I will feature my monthly book on this blog.

It is important that we talk about reading, as we begin our journey about writing.  A well-known maxim is "A Good Writer is a Good Reader."

Your library is your friend, bookstores are vital, and reading is Divine.
